Breaking with Old Ideas

Set in the “cultural revolution” period of China, a college of labor is set up in a mountain area of Jiangxi Province. Lung Guozheng, a veteran cadre of Chinese People’s Anti-Japanese Military and Political College, is sent to the new college as secretary and headmaster. He has to resist the capitalists inside the party and school trying to use the college to train a generation of capitalists and exploiters and instead building up a generation of revolutionary successors

Shajiabang aka Sands Family Creek (沙家浜)

The story is set during the War of Resistance in Japanese-occupied territory to the west of Shanghai. Shajiabang is a small market town on the marshy reed-fringed shore of Lake Yangcheng where Sister Aqing, who is secretly a Communist Party member, works in a small tea-house patronised by officers of the puppet “Loyal and Just National Salvation Army”. Unbeknown to her patrons, Sister Aqing is helping care for eighteen wounded soldiers of the New Fourth Army who are hiding in the marshes.

Sparkling Red Star (闪闪的红星)

The adventure of Dongzi Pan, a boy whose father leaves home for the Long March in the Red Army after leaving Dongzi a Red Star. During the long years his father is gone Dongzi’s mother is killed by gangsters of the evil landlord Hu and he grows up to be a agent and fighter of the revolution.

The White-haired Girl

The story centers on a well-known Chinese folk tale about a girl named Xi’er, the daughter of a poor farmer in Shaanxi province, whose family is persecuted by a brutal landlord. Covering the evils of Old China and Land reform this movie is one of the first revolutionary movies of New China.

After School(放学以后) – Cultural Revolution Child’s Animation

“After School” is a cartoon from the Cultural Revolution. The film tells the story of “Little Red Guard” Li Guohua’s struggle against a former capitalist who tries to teach the youth capitalist nursery rhymes. The film takes “class struggle as the key link” and raises the theme of children singing nursery rhymes after school to the height of the struggle between the two lines and deepens it.
